New York State Middle School Association Conference

NYSMSA 30th Annual Conference

On behalf of the NYS Middle School Association we would like to invite you to the 30th Annual New York State Middle School Association Conference, October 21-23, 2010, at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center in downtown Rochester, NY. The Conference theme “Viewing Middle School through a Different Lens” captures both the great tradition of imaging in the Rochester region and the core belief that educating the middle level student is unique in its own right. The conference is being planned to include full day pre-conference trainings, area middle school visitations to your choice of local schools identified as New York State: Essential Elements: Schools to Watch, and a myriad of practitioner workshops designed to highlight best practices for teachers and administrators. This incredible experience comes to the Rochester region once every 5 years. Please consider this unique opportunity to take part in unmatched professional development while enjoying beautiful Rochester NY. We promise you an experience you will not soon forget!

McCann Teacher Leadership Award

Educators are invited to nominate a teacher who has exhibited leadership in education.

There are many different ways that teachers can lead in and outside the classroom. In just the last few years, the term has been used to describe teachers who work as coaches or instructional leaders; teachers who serve on school, district, state or
national advisory or policy making groups; teachers who chair departments or school teams; teachers who provide the energy to sustain professional learning communities—and there are many more examples. An effective teacher leader can directly impact school, its teachers and most importantly the students.

Complete this nomination form and e-mail it to ellen@teachercenter.org with your contact information.

NOMINATION FORM

Date for nominations is February 25, 2011. Email ellen@teachercenter.org and include contact information. Teachers will be selected by March 7, 2011. Educators affiliated
with GCRTCET constituent school districts or BOCES may participate by submitting a one page essay to nominate a colleague who you believe exemplifies Teacher Leadership. Recognition will be on the The Teacher Center Web Page and at the Celebration of Teaching in April, 2011.
