Graduate Credit
Many universities award graduate credit for achieving National Board Certification. NBCTs can download an application from the American Council of Education which can be submitted with payment for graduate credits at participating universities.
Colleges and Universities Incorporate National Board
Standards
Many universities around the country are aligning their standards with the National Board Certification standards. Dr. Patrick Allen, the Dean of Union Graduate College School of Education, was one of the first in New York State to align the Mastersof Arts in Teaching program with National Boards Standards.
Certificate of Graduate Study
Some institutions of Higer Education are also creating Certificates of Graduate Study.
The University at Albany School of Education is creating a 15 credit hour Certificate of Graduate Study in Teacher Leadership, which involves participating in a National Board support group, achieving NBC, participating in a teacher leadership institute and focusing on a specific area of expertise. This CGS is awaiting approval at NYSED.The College of St. Rose has developed a Certificate of Teaching and Learning. It is a 9 credit certificate which involves graduate and post graduate students, in a cadre for support through the National Board Certification Process.
University Based Support Groups
In New York State several schools of education have collaborated with a New York State Teacher Center to support candidates seeking National Board Certification.

The New York State Professional Standards and Practices Board has approved National Board Certified Teacher to teach on the graduate level at institutions of Higher Education. Several NBCTs works as adjuncts at Union Graduate College, University at Albany, and St. Rose.Study Groups
The Capital Area School Development Association is a study council affiliated with the School of Education at The University at Albany, State University of New York. Incorporated by the State Education Department of the University of the State of New York in 1949 , it is one of the oldest study councils in the United States. CASDA has a current membership of 122 school districts, public and private, serving more than 10,000 teachers and 175,000 students. The Council is comprised mainly of area administrators.
During 2005-2006 CASDA Select Seminar focused on National Board Certification in New York State. The findings were published in A View From Inside.CASDA's Select Seminar will study Teacher Leadership during the spring of 2008.
